How Much Do Shutters Cost in Herefordshire?

By Origin Shutters·

The honest answer is: it depends. Here's a realistic sense of what to expect — and what you're actually paying for.

It's the question everyone wants answered before they pick up the phone. The honest answer is: it depends. But we can give you a realistic sense of what to expect — and more importantly, help you understand what you're actually paying for.

Why shutters aren't cheap — and why that's okay

Shutters aren't a commodity product. They're made to measure for every window in your home, fitted by experienced installers, and designed to last for decades. When you compare them to a blind that might need replacing every few years, the long-term cost often looks very different.

Think of shutters less like a soft furnishing and more like joinery — in the same bracket as a well-made kitchen or a quality piece of furniture.

What affects the price?

Several factors influence the cost of shutters:

Window size. Larger windows require more material and more time to fit. A small bathroom window will cost significantly less than a wide bay.

Style. Full height shutters covering the entire window are the most popular choice. Café style (covering only the lower half) can be a more economical option for street-facing windows. Tier-on-tier (with independently opening top and bottom panels) tends to cost a little more. Guided shutters for bi-fold doors and large openings, shaped shutters for arched or angled windows, and solid panel shutters (solid timber instead of louvres) all sit at the higher end of the range.

Louvre size. Wider louvres (63mm or 76mm) give a more contemporary, open feel and are very popular in modern homes. Narrower louvres suit more traditional properties.

Material. Our shutters are sourced from carefully selected suppliers — each with different price points and finishes.

Number of windows. Fitting multiple windows in one visit is more efficient, and we're often able to offer better value on larger projects.

A rough guide to pricing

Without seeing your windows it's impossible to give an exact figure, but as a general guide for a typical property in Herefordshire or the Cotswolds:

• A small, single window might start from around £300–£400 fitted

• A standard living room bay window typically ranges from £800–£1,500+

• A whole-house project across multiple rooms can run into several thousand pounds

These figures will vary depending on the factors above. The best way to get an accurate price is to arrange a free home visit — we'll measure up and give you a detailed quote with no obligation.

How do we compare on price?

We're often more competitive than the national chains. Larger companies carry significant overheads — big teams, national advertising, call centres — all of which find their way into your quote.

We're a local business. Lower overheads mean we can offer better value without compromising on quality.

Is it worth getting multiple quotes?

Yes — and we'd encourage it. Just make sure you're comparing like for like. A lower quote might mean a thinner louvre, a less robust frame, or a longer lead time. Ask what's included, who manufactures the shutters, and who will be fitting them.
